In the Grand Cayman Islands, we decided to do the Stingray Sandbar & Coral Reef excursion. Definitely a good call! We figured they would take us out to some touristy pond with a bunch of stingrays (that wouldn’t have the actual stingers). But if turned out, we were out in the ocean water (about 30 minutes off-shore) with them (AND their stingers!). I was a little nervous when I heard about the stingers, but I figured if hundreds of people did this every day, it couldn’t be too dangerous. The stingrays are actually pretty friendly, but that is probably because they know the tourists come baring squid! Cliff and I fed a stingray and Cliff got a little “love bite” on his thumb. Our excursion guy told him it was his souvenir. We also got to hold a stingray, give her a kissykissy, and get a “back massage.” After about 30 minutes, we got in the boat for another 5 minutes and headed over to the coral reef to snorkel and see more fish. The ocean was absolutely beautiful… whitish soft sand and light blue-green water that you could see right through. We definitely want to go back to the Caymans!
