One Year Older

I turned 31 on the 4th of July (yes, it's a pretty good birthday to have).  It was a pretty low-key birthday, since 31 isn't very monumental and I'm not a big birthday person.  I had a good workout, including a near-barfy run (see Wednesday on the recap below).  Note to self: next time have my BFF take me out to breakfast for my birthday instead of convincing me to do a 6-mile run in the heat after swim practice!  After my workouts, Cliff and I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's (our first time to visit the Fort Worth store) and Central Market.  We bought some blue and gorgonzola cheeses, lobster tails, jumbo scallops, and artichokes to make my birthday dinner.  Of course we loaded up on "two buck Chuck" (which is actually "three buck Chuck" in Texas due to the shipping charges)... cheers to cheap wine!  The dinner came out really good.  We had never cooked scallops before, and they were scrumptious (and my mom was our cooking advisor on that endeavor).

My t-shirt arrived in the mail, and GusGus and I were super excited about it!  (Note how my sweaty hair is sticking to my neck even after I showered... I can't wait to run in some cooler Fall weather.)

I took advantage of the holiday week and two exta days off work, and I managed to workout for over 10 hours this week (10:02:16).  Other than the week of the 3-Day Walk, I hadn't had a 10+ hour workout week since March 2010.  I ran a total of 22.58 miles and swam a total of 15,550 meters.

A recap of the workouts this week:
Monday: Swam 3,400 meters (1:05:30)
Tuesday: Ran 3 miles @ 9:37 pace (28:53) in Lake Country; stationary biked 41 minutes
Wednesday: Swim 3,000 meters (1:06:57); ran 5.99 miles @ 10:01 pace (1:00:01) on the Trinity Trails from LMRA
Thursday: Swam 3,000 meters* (1:01:13)
Friday: Ran 6.20 miles @ 9:42 pace (1:00:11) in Lake Country
Saturday: Ran 4.00 miles @ 9:23 pace (37:34) on the Trinity Trails from LMRA; swam 3,150 meters (1:08:47)
Sunday: Ran 3.39 miles @ 9:54 pace (33:26) in Lake Country; weights/abs for 15:23; swam 3,000 meters (1:03:12)

*Main set of 1,500 for time completed in 24:22.  My time was a lot slower than I expected, especially since I have been doing okay during the main sets in practice (granted a 100 is much shorter than a 1500!).  We're going to swim this again in about 3 weeks, so it will be a good indicator of my progress.  Splits: 1:32, 1:35, 1:38, 1:39, 1:36, 1:39, 1:40, 1:39, 1:38, 1:38, 1:39, 1:39, 1:36, 1:40, 1:37

I'm eyeing the Masters Zone Championships in San Antonio the weekend of August 10-12.  It's at Palo Alto College, home of the 2000 Summer Junior Nationals and 2000 and 2001 WAC Championships (memory lane).
