Well there are a few things motivating me right now. First off, I really need to shed these extra 20 pounds of fluff I've been carrying around... not only for my health and athletic performance, but also because my bonus daughter is getting married in April and I want to look snazzy. Also, I'm trying not to dwell on work as much. Instead, I want to get back to doing the stuff that makes me happy and healthy! After three weeks of travel for work, I was excited to have more consistency and structure to my schedule. So with that said, I set a goal of working out 7 hours this week. I also aimed to cut back on the alcohol and eat healthier. I did a better job with the exercise verus the eating/drinking, but it was a good start. I worked out a total of 8 hours, which included running 22.07 miles. I averaged closer to 9:30/mile (versus 10:00/mile) on my runs, which is a great improvement, especially in this crazy heat. I also had a tough weight workout where I really pushed myself. I need to do this more often (but it's so tempting to ride the stationary bike at the gym and read smutty romance novels on my Kindle!). Lastly, I got back in the pool and went to masters practice on Saturday (2,600 long course meters) and Sunday (3,100 long course meters). This was a bit of shock to my system (especially the effort required to make the 3:00 interval on 200s pull!), since I haven't been swimming. But I'm planning on doing the 1.2-mile swim leg of a half Ironman relay in Grand Prairie in September with some friends, and I want to look like a bad ass in that lake!
