Happy New Year

Last night Cliff and I had a wonderful dinner at Lambert's Steak, Seafood, and Whiskey (a trifecta of goodness). Our dinner...

Appetizer - Boar's Ribs. Scrumptious. I am not a rib eater, but I had read about the boar's ribs in the Yelp reviews, and the waiter also recommended them. The meat fell off the bone after barely touching it with my fork. And the sauce was perfect. It had a bit of sweetness (brown sugar, perhaps?).

Salads - I got a spinach salad because I can't pass up my favorites - shallots, blue cheese, etc. Cliff got the chopped salad with almonds. My salad won, especially because it had a yummy side of cheesy bread.

Main Course - I ordered the 8 oz peppered filet. I was expecting a light brown sauce, and it was creamier (but creamy = fatty = yummy). I ordered my steak between rare and medium rare. It came out medium well (just a tiny spot of pink in the middle), so I had to ask the waiter for a new one. I don't think I've ever done that before, but it was no big deal and they were great about it. My dish came with green beans and I picked the mac n cheese as my carb. Cliff ordered the special, a 12 oz NY Strip with an enchilada on top, served over rice. We also ordered a family side of green chili grits. Those were absolutely amazing! We boxed up some leftovers and ate them this morning with mimosas. Mmmmm.

Wine - We ordered a Malbec, and it was really tasty. It had some spice to it which balanced out the fruity. I think it was called Alamos, maybe? I got a little excited and ordered a second bottle. We ended up only drinking about a glass from the second bottle and corking it. But it was nice to have a yummy glass of wine when we got home!

This was a really nice and laid back New Years. Cliff and I wanted to do something low key since we didn't get to spend Christmas together. We actually fell asleep before midnight (oops), but it still goes down in the books as one of my favorite New Years Eves. It's great to be with someone who you can just lounge around with and have a great time.

I was planning on going to the 3:00 yoga class today, but it's turning out to be a nice, lazy day (thank you, mimosas). I want to do a semi-long run (hopefully 12 miles) tomorrow morning. I am guessing this will be a bad eating weekend, but the goal is to do some big workouts on Saturday and Sunday and then focus on the diet on Monday (gotta love the Mondays).
