Foot Frustration

I did my tempo run yesterday on the dreadmill. It was 7 miles, with a mile warm-up, 5 miles @ 9:05, and a mile warm-down. The tempo run actually felt better than my 8-mile run on Tuesday, and I thought my foot was feeling better. I got a massage last night, and Cynthia worked on my foot quite a bit and I realized that it's pretty messed up at the moment (I think when you see stars during a massage, it's a pretty good indicator). It's actually the tendon between my big toe and second toe (although I tend to just say "big toe" since that's the general vicinity). I drank lots of water (had to get up twice last night) and I knew I probably shouldn't run on it this morning, but I am stubborn. I did an easy 4-mile run in my neighborhood. I have a 16-mile run this weekend, but my priority is really on my 20-mile run with Liz in Huntington Beach a week from Saturday. So I probably need to be smart about this and not make my foot worse. I am thinking about maybe doing an 8-mile run on Saturday and an 8-mile run on Sunday (rather than a straight 16-mile run). That way I still get a pretty good muscle load (is that what it's called), but my form doesn't go to cr@p and my foot has a chance to recover a bit. I will take all of my supplies (fuel belt, gels, clothes, Garmin, iPod.... gosh there is a lot) to Ardmore and make a game time decision.

I am working at home today, and after I coach this afternoon, Cliff and I are taking off. We get our dog this weekend! We're picking him up on Sunday. We are pretty sure that we are going to name him Angus, Gus for short. I also like the Angus Beef connection too because I'm sure he will be beefy.
